Newsletter 2012

Welcome back to our revised website.  Revised?  Yes change is in the air this spring, streamlining is the name of the game!  The Saturday session times at TAPA have changed a little.  The morning group still meet from 10am until 1pm but the afternoon group now start at 12 noon and finish at 3pm.

After Easter when we start back on 21st April, we will begin work on our next big show at the Queen’s Hall in March 2013, Oliver! The Musical.  CDs and lyrics will be arriving home so that students who wish to audition for lead parts can prepare.  We will have the show cast and be ready to start rehearsing after the June half term.

As usual workshops dealing with related performance skills will run alongside the rehearsal sessions: blocking, language of the stage/stage direction, projection, breathing techniques, improvisation, and characterisation, creating humorous scenes, use of props and many other topics which arise from the exciting project of staging the classic show, Oliver!

By the way the Cameron Mackintosh’s version of the show is on tour and comes to the Theatre Royal in September, it would be well worth a visit, I’ve got my tickets already!

The change to TAPA PM’s session times gives us 1 hour from 12 until 1pm when we have TAPA AM & PM students together.  All of the students in both groups will make up the cast for the annual show.  This weekly overlap will enable us to rehearse the big chorus songs/scenes, which involve everyone, when we need to do so. I am delighted to say that Elena, will become the musical director for the show and the singing teacher for both groups.

TAPA continue to be a thriving examinations centre for Trinity Guildhall.  Examination entries will be collated in the autumn term for students interested in taking grade exams in Musical Theatre and Performance Arts.  The teacher training programme for students in 6th form who have passed their grade 8 examination continues to be a popular option.

The Wizard of Oz was brilliant and the creative team were delighted with the quality performance the young cast achieved.  The glowing review in the Courant was certainly well deserved.  We Will Rock You was another roaring success.  Shannon O’Brien (Scaramouche) and Jonathan Ross (Galileo) lead a well rehearsed and talented cast to another performance victory.

So what are you waiting for?  Get your application in to join us in our next creative venture into the world of Victorian England and Oliver! The Musical.
